Dr. Makaziwe Mandela – Global Thought Leader, Businesswoman, and Advocate for Social Change
Dr. Makaziwe Mandela is a distinguished businesswoman, academic, and advocate for social justice. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, she is the eldest daughter of Evelyn Mase and Nelson Mandela. Growing up in Soweto, she witnessed firsthand the challenges of apartheid, shaping her lifelong commitment to equity, empowerment, and transformation.
Her academic journey began at Fort Hare University, where she earned a BA in Social Work, followed by an Honours Degree in Sociology from the University of Natal. In 1984, she was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Foreign Scholarship and Fulbright Distinguished Fellowship Award to pursue a Master’s in Sociology and a PhD in Anthropology at the University of Massachusetts, USA.
